Janice D. M. Mitchell, Ed.D, CDP, Professor Emerita of German and Intercultural/International Education at Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C., MA graduate of Georgetown University in German Linguistics, an Ed. D., the University of Southern California, Sociological and Philosophical Foundations of Education and Higher Ed. Her service of pioneering work includes: language acquisition of deaf students learning foreign languages and English; creating multiple courses and programming in Multicultural Studies for graduate future teachers; TESOL; including Sign Language to teach German and English majors and minors; and developing courses and training teachers in direct and indirect Service-Learning techniques. A Certified Diversity Professional (CDP), and a Grand Master in TaeKwonDo. She conducts student leader training workshops and Institutes at major conferences; consults with Advisory Boards to help guide diversity and inclusion training as a tool to enhance multicultural learning environments in the U.S. and globally. For The National Conference on Race & Ethnicity in Higher Education, she does training workshops on various aspects of diversity and inclusion for faculty and student leaders. She is founder and first President of the Georgiana Simpson Society for German Diaspora Studies-Blackness in Europe; on campus was a Black Student organization advisor and founding member and President of the Gallaudet University’s Organization for Equity of African Americans.
